Sheepsfoot blade

The shape of Sheepsfoot knives features a straight edge with a single-edged blade. The spine is blunt and slopes down towards the tip, which is level with the edge. Sheepsfoot knives offer users a long cutting surface, full control over the knife's handling and also the option to rest fingers on the spine, thanks to its bluntness.

Its greatest advantage is considered to be its easy sharpening and excellent control during work. The original intent behind the creation of this shape was trimming sheep hooves, which is why it also carries the name Sheepsfoot, even though there is no resemblance to a hoof at all.

In total, we know of up to 12 types of blades, specifically:

  • normal blade / straight back
  • drop point
  • clip point
  • tanto point
  • spear point
  • sheepsfoot blade
  • wharncliffe blade
  • trailing point
  • needle point
  • spey point
  • leaf blade
  • hawkbill blade
