The Hardshell Squall is a technical outer layer for extreme weather conditions.
The TorrentStretch membrane effectively protects against rain and wind
It is an in-house three-layer 3L laminate by Helikon-Tex, developed with intensive activity in hard weather conditions in mind. Waterproofness at the level of 30 000 mm water column effectively protects during downpours and strong wind. The integrated micro-porous membrane blocks water from the outside and smoothly carries the moisture the body produces to the outside.
Active ventilation carries away excess heat and moisture
Water vapour permeability at the level of 30 000 g/m²/24 h and a low RET 7 coefficient mean very low evaporation resistance, which matters crucially during activity.
The TorrentStretch® membrane smoothly carries away excess heat and moisture and does not let the body overheat. Thanks to this the jacket keeps a high level of comfort during long ascents or a march exposed to adverse weather conditions in mountain terrain.
Waterproof YKK® AquaGuard® zippers are additional protection against rain
They effectively block water without affecting the smooth running of the sliders. The comfortable two-way main zipper finished with a Prym snap lets you keep the jacket sealed and at the same time makes adjustment during movement in the field easier.
A DWR hydrophobic finish protects the outer layer
Durable Water Repellency increases resistance to soiling, limits the absorption of the material and slows the ingress of moisture. Thanks to this the product is simpler to care for and keeps its properties longer.
Functional solutions increase protection and comfort and improve ventilation.
An adjustable hood
The 2-point adjustment lets you fit the hood precisely to the head, and the high collar additionally shields the face from wind.
Underarm vents
They precisely increase airflow and stabilise the material.
Cuff and hem adjustment
The cuffs adjusted with hook-and-loop and the drawcord at the bottom let you fit the jacket to the conditions.
Helikon-Tex designed the Hardshell Squall jacket as a year-round outer layer for work in changing conditions.
In summer it protects against wind and precipitation, and in winter it forms the base of a layering system. To use the possibilities of the Squall hardshell jacket fully, wear technical clothing layers under it that warm and wick moisture. In winter thermal underwear, for example US LVL 1, combined with a light insulating layer such as the Wolfhound Hoodie, performs best.
Chest pockets
The two chest pockets are placed higher, thanks to which they stay reachable even with the hip belt of a backpack fastened.
Internal pocket
It additionally protects documents or a phone from adverse weather conditions.
Compact packing
Once packed into its hood, the jacket fits without trouble into a trekking or EDC backpack. The 3L laminate does not crease excessively, and the low weight makes transport easier.
On the shoulders you find hook-and-loop panels for personalising the jacket.
