On an operational deployment there is no room for improvisation – the dog's gear has to work during rope transport, parachute jumps and movement through difficult terrain. The K9 Thorn Cordura tactical harness is built for exactly this kind of deployment while protecting the dog from injury; yet it can also be worn every day. The manufacturer developed it in consultation with police dog handlers and special forces soldiers.
Three types of attachment points for different situations
When suspended on a rope, the dog is carried by V-rings with a strength of 20 kN. The sewn-in D-rings are useful when you lead the dog clipped to yourself in difficult terrain. The side D-rings are for attaching the hind leg straps – they are included and take the load off the hind legs during rope transport. Additional gear can be attached to the MOLLE system.
Hardware and materials with plenty in reserve
Fastening is provided by Cobra buckles from Austrialpin with a breaking strength of 9 kN and a loop strength of 18 kN; their body is made of 7075 aluminium, the pins and clamping bar of stainless steel and the clamps of brass. The frame is made of water-resistant Cordura fabric, lined underneath with spacer mesh for better breathability. According to the manufacturer, this textured polyamide fabric is several times stronger than standard nylon, yet it is light and dries quickly. The medium-stiff Pa6 polyamide straps, 2.2 mm thick, have a strength of 20 kN (2000 kg). The design distributes the load across the dog's entire body, leaves it full freedom of movement, and the harness is quick to put on and take off.
